Peak season for cherries in Northern California runs from early May through the first part of June. While the late spring rains have delayed some of the early cherry varieties, your farmers’ market will soon have sweet Bing, colorful Rainier, and other great varieties to add to your salads, desserts, and main dishes.

When you bring your cherries home, handle them delicately to avoid bruising. Keep them out of the sunlight to avoid softening and stem damage. Refrigerate as soon as possible.

Also in season and available at the market now are fresh spring peas, artichokes, blueberries, raspberries, spring lettuce and onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, garlic, spinach, and strawberries. Coming soon are apricots and other stone fruit, eggplant, squash and peppers.

Come by every Sunday to the Santana Row Farmers' Market from 11am-4pm at Park Valencia, near Starbucks.
