When was the last time you had a summer picnic? Relaxing outside, enjoying the sunshine or starring at the stars for a late picnic, good food and fun picnic companions. Well Summer is here which means families and friends flock to the beach and parks to picnic-in the middle of the day or even night.

Nothing makes a picnic more fun than low-stress cooking -- whether you pick up ready-made food from the grocery store, fresh produce from your local Farmers’ Market or make sandwiches at home.

Here are a few pointers to keep you, your family, and guests from getting sick:

  • Always keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
  • Cover foods to protect from insects and debris.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Cook meat and poultry thoroughly.
  • Don't keep foods out for more than an hour. Throw them out if they have not been kept at the proper temperature.

At least once a summer I recommend that everyone go on a picnic. It’ll feel like a mini vacation. So get out and enjoy the summer sun!
