Keeping Your Resolutions On Track with Borders
At the beginning of every year, many people make resolutions, and it’s about this time that you begin to hear people talking about how they have already begun to break theirs. For me it was important that I stuck with mine; to lose those last 5 pounds I had been trying for. Just 5 lbs, how hard could that be? As the month went by I found my self less interested in the gym and more interested in catching the return of my favorite TV shows (Desperate Housewives anyone?) That is when I realized I needed a little help, so I headed to Borders on Santana Row to build up my recourses.
When I walked in the door I was excited to see that they had an entire table dedicated to healthy eating and weight loss and, even more exciting, that the items were all buy one get one 50%! As a fan of The Biggest Loser I was instantly drawn to all the Jillian Michaels items. Borders had multiple workout DVD items from her collection. After looking over a couple of them I picked out her 30 Day Shred. Michaels uses an interval system, three minutes of strength training, two minutes of cardio, and a minute of abs to maximize results. The video is only twenty minutes long which definitely was part of its appeal. I knew if I couldn’t work out for twenty minutes, there was no way I was going to lose those last couple pounds. Let me tell you, after two weeks of that video I have never felt better or more toned! I am even thinking about going back and picking up her No More Trouble Zones workout.
After I selected the workout DVD, I was also interested in finding something to help me on my way to eating healthier. Borders had so many different options, I wasn’t sure which one to chose. I asked one of their staff members, Dan what he suggested. He told me that everyone was raving about the Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet and he even took me upstairs to help me find it. I browsed through it and thought it looked really interesting. Luckily it was included in the 50% of deal so I added it to my selection. The recipes all looked really delicious. I especially like the Fried Udon Noodles, having always been a fan of Udon, the recipe is a great healthy adaptation of a delicious classic. The great thing about the book is that it’s not just a cookbook. Silverstone helps you understand changes that can be made for a healthier lifestyle and ways that you can make those changes. She gives suggestions on her favorite brands for the ingredients that she uses in her recipes and even has weekly meal plans.
I really liked the great selection of resources Borders had to offer, appreciated the help that their staff members were able to give me, and enjoyed the store’s atmosphere. If you haven’t been there, I must tell you that they have an amazing balcony that overlooks Santana Row; it’s a great place to read your book and have a latte from their Seattle’s Best Coffee Café (a skinny vanilla latte if you are watching the calories like I am). Most of all I was glad that at Borders I was able to get the resources I needed to help reach my goal (only three more pounds now!)
