Where Art Thou?

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, Santana Row is more than a shopping, dining, and entertainment destination.  It’s a walking art tour where you can experience hand-made creations from around the world.  Take a moment to look around at the fountains, the iron work, the special mosaic tiles, underneath the overhangs…you’ll surely be able to come across many international works of art.

So where did all this beautiful artwork come from?  Federal Realty, creator of Santana Row, brought in two French artists, Andre Dumonnet and Christine Foulche to add their artistic touch to areas around Santana Row.  From the pillars at the front of Santana Row Park inspired by the Barcelona’s Park Guell in Spain to the Chapel façade at the entrance of Vintage Wine Bar which is a genuine piece of 19th century neo-gothic stone architecture from a castle near Montpellier, all the pieces around Santana Row were hand-picked and individually placed for visitors to enjoy.

Pillars                        Lizard Fountain                      Chapel

Have you ever noticed the Lizards Fountain in Santana Row Park?  This is the largest and most impressive fountain around Santana Row.  The scalloped shape of the basin was inspired by those found in Versaille’s gardens.  The lizard was chosen for its prominent use in 17th century decoration and each is made of bronze and specially created for Santana Row.

For another point of interest, next time you are strolling near H&M or eating at Pizza Antica, look up under the awning and you’ll see another work of art, the Tabula Selenographica.  This is a depiction of the 28 phases of the moon all hand painted in acrylic and tar in order to depict the passage from darkness to light.

We should also mention the famous red lantern wall.  This wall has become a favorite spot for locals and visitors to take photos.  Flickr has a huge congregation of people who have posted photos in front of this wall.  It seems to be a center of photographic expression.  That is art in itself!

Continue to make Santana Row beautiful by creating stories and photos from around The Row.  It’s what makes Santana Row so special.
