Atelier AVEDA: Braids are back!
There is a small slice of summer left—plenty of time to break out another perfect relaxed summer hairstyle that will even take you into autumn.
Braids—simple or complex—can give your hair a sexy, bohemian look that can take you from pool to party or from workday to sashay! The most popular braid is the French braid. A tight version of a French braid is one where the braid lays along the scalp, incorporating hair into the braid as you go, to create a neat, controlled look. Be sure to use a product like Aveda’s Control Paste to keep the flyways down.
You can start with a middle part for a symmetrical style, or a side part for a more asymmetrical look; bangs out or worked into the braid. The long section you’re left with at the end can be wound up into a bun, or left out and braided down and secured with an elastic band. This can be worn for a day or two, and as it loosens up, the resulting softness takes this style into a bed-heady look that is a perfect complement to a bohemian outfit. If you’re not adept with French braids, consider booking a styling appointment with your favorite stylist, and have them give you a mini-lesson while they put in your French braid style. Then, practice, practice, practice!
