Fashion Trend Report:  Keep Warm this Winter

Seeing as the Bay Area has just had some of its coldest days ever and will be facing more, you are going to need to prepare to bundle up! Just because we live in California doesn’t mean we don’t get cold! Below you will find some of the best ways to keep warm this winter while being fashion forward.

There are two main things to keep in mind this season: oversized tops and layers. Don’t be afraid to let your tops hang loose. As long as you keep your pants form fitting, large comfy sweaters are perfectly acceptable. Also, lots of layers will provide plenty of warmth while maintaining your fashionability.

Chunky, patterned knits are everywhere this winter, especially in sweaters. The chunkier, the better! This sweater from Urban Outfitters is the perfect choice if you are not quite ready to embrace the craziness. It has the thick patterned knit, but is a structured garment. No one says you have to make the leap all at once!

Thick, patterned tights are also a fun way to add color and texture to your outfit, and they will definitely help you retain your body heat! There are two pairs show below: one for the adventurous dresser and one for the more structured. Remember; don’t get too stressed out about mixing patterns and prints. Adding just a bit of texture will really spice up an outfit. Put either of these tights under a sweater dress or wool skirt and you’re good to go.

Scarves are another simple way to take your outfit to the next level. Whether you want to add color, texture, or fun, scarves are the perfect accessory, especially when you are trying to keep warm. One scarf style that is very prevalent this winter is the eternity scarf. It provides non-stop style and warmth because it is a big loop! Below is a chunky white eternity scarf from Anthropologie (along with a beautiful, thick, colorful scarf that I just love)!

Probably the most obvious piece of clothing to keep you warm in your wardrobe is a coat. If you decide to just have one, make it a neutral coat that will go with everything that is already in your closet. Try a black or gray double breasted wool coat. If you want to keep your options open, try different styles. Have one long and one short, double and single breasted, wool and cotton, a neutral and a color… you get the hint! Don’t be afraid of having too many different styles because there are so many that you have available to you this season! I personally love the different shape that the coat below has. It is unique and classy, and of course, fashion forward.
