The Reader, February 2009

Is Kate Winslet the new IT girl? She has EXPLODED this year with an amazing acting range and talent. I think our entire movie club would probably say that we would see any of her films. You walk out of The Reader completely disturbed with the fact that Katie Winslet (Hanna Schmitz) never really figured out her emotions until the second to last scene where she ended her own life. If the characters would have just figured out how to truly love and communicate their lives would not have ended in tragedy. David Kross as Michael was so effected by the spell of Hanna that it over took his entire life emotionally and left him with no ability to effectively love another. Kate Winslet received an academy award nomination for this role and she will win for best actress. She reached this character at every level. I am thrilled that I was able to experience Kate Winslet become Hanna Schmitz, but I do not need to see this movie again. One time is enough for me. Creepy, Creepy, Creepy.
