Seasonal trends at NY Fashion Week

Seasonal trends usually start to crystallize by the third day of the eight-day run known as New York Fashion Week. This year, for the first time in many years, those trends are harder to define. Yes, there are lots of cocoon-like wraps and chunky cardigans and a color scheme that tends toward comforting shades of dove gray and camel. But they’re often paired with shots of peacock blue, scarlet or bright pink. While there’s a definite 80s vibe, there’s also a space-age feel in the exaggerated shoulders, silvery metallics and “Mad Max” use of leather and fur. Silicon Valley women are going to find their fall favorite somewhere in between the nubby knits  and futuristic urbanite looks many of the designers are showcasing this week. It could be a season that appeals to lots of women simply because there’s so much to choose from. Stay tuned here for more updates from Fashion Week and check out the Mercury News style section at www.mercurynews.com/style for the latest from the Big Apple’s runways.
