Spring Fashion on a Budget
Very few of us can spend willy-nilly these days but it doesn’t stop us from buying something new. Frugal fashionistas are great at setting a budget then relishing the hunt for what they most desire. And why not? Runway looks are interpreted at every price point these days.
Here are five tips for cheap chic shopping this spring:
* Don’t think in terms of entire outfits or overhauling your closet. Take a look at what you have from past seasons and then decide what you can buy to freshen up favorite staples. Update your white jeans with a one-shoulder top, for instance. The full floral skirt that you wore with a shrunken tee a few seasons back? Pair it with a crisp white shirt for a brand new look.
* Add a skinny belt to a lightweight cardigan. The cinched waist gives you a whole new silhouette. And, if you’re in need of a spring sweater, choose one in a bright pink, marigold or a sea-blue shade to be right in step with the season’s hottest hues.
* Accessories are an easy and inexpensive way to instantly add newness. Look for big, square-framed sunglasses, stackable bangles, dangling earrings set with stones and chunky necklaces with an ethnic touch or in multiple strands to drape around the neck.
* Find fun flip-flops in a bright beach color you normally wouldn’t choose. Who cares if it doesn’t match what you’re wearing?
* Pedicure, please. Don’t forget to expose the toes only after painting them in a stylish shade of nail polish. Find a red that looks good with your skin tone or live on the edge and dabble in fuchsia, berry pink or turquoise blue. You can always change your mind.
