A ham sandwich walks into a bar. The bartender says, “Sorry, we don’t serve food here” “Who invented the sandwich anyway?” I wondered out loud today as I devoured a delicious French Dip at the LB Steak on Santana Row. Who, would I thank for this scrumptious sandwich? “The Earl of Sandwich”, my lunch companion proudly announces. Our server claims otherwise. It was the French. They did it first. Like most obnoxious restaurant guests, I pulled out my iPhone….

New Year’s at LB Steak
Still weighing options for a New Year’s celebration? Looking for a special meal, something different? This year, LB Steak will be offering a Roasted Leg Loin of Venison as a menu addition. Venison, which now refers exclusively to deer meat, has become increasingly popular in recent years. This is owed to the meat’s lower fat content. Oktoberfest 2011 from Germany all the way to The Row
Oktoberfest is a 16–18 day festival held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, running from late September to the first weekend in October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and is the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the Munich event.

John Montague, 4th Earl of Sandwich (1718-1792) is supposed to have invented the sandwich as a quick meal so as not to interrupt his gambling sessions. However some form of a sandwich was probably eating before this time when more humans ate with their hands rather than using utensils.
